A building site worker was taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after he fell while working yesterday (Wednesday, May 25). Emergency services were called to the site in Fleckney, between Leicester and Market Harborough, shortly after 3.30pm.

The man had been working 'at height' on the site in Freer Road, near High Street, according the fire service report. Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service, (EMAS) were also called to the scene.

In its report on the incident, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival incident confirmed as male fallen from height on to narrow scaffolding at roof height. The male had suspected spinal injuries.

"Fire service formulated rescue plan in conjunction with EMAS and building site staff. The casualty was rescued from scaffolding by fire service using scoop stretcher in co ordination with on-site staff."

A crew from Wigston fire station as well as a specialist technical rescue team, whose members are trained to work at height, took part in the operation. The casualty was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary by ambulance.
