A new industry safety standard for scaffolding has been published by SafeWork NSW, promoting best practice in the high-risk construction industry.

The industry standard provides practical management tools for principal contractors, scaffolders, engineers, and other parties involved in scaffolding work. It outlines a milestone-based scaffold management process.

The industry standard stems from an incident in April 2019 where a modular scaffold collapse caused the death of a young worker and permanent injuries for another worker. The principal contractor for the construction project was later prosecuted. The court made a WHS Project Order requiring the development of this industry standard.
