Taipei, Sept. 2 (CNA) Heavy rains and gusty winds have been toppling trees, scaffolding and rocks in parts of Taiwan, as Typhoon Hinnamnor churns closer to the southeast coast, but no injuries have been reported, local authorities said Friday.

In Keelung on the north coast of Taiwan, strong winds brought down the scaffolding at a construction site on Zhonghe Road in the city's Zhongshan District at 4:15 a.m. Friday, blocking one of the lanes, which was not cleared until 7:10 a.m., city police said.

Also in the north of the country, falling rocks were seen strewn on roadways No. 32, No. 60 and No. 60-1 in Hsinchu County's mountainous Jianshi Township, as rain pounded the area on Friday, according to Huang Pi-de (黃比德), secretary of the township office.

At around 11:30 a.m. Friday, strong winds brought a tree crashing down onto a vehicle that was driving past an industrial park in Guishan District in Taoyuan, city police said.

Meanwhile, a section of railway in New Taipei's Pingxi District was blocked by shrubbery that fell onto the tracks at 12:42 p.m., authorities reported.

Due to the blockage on the Pingxi railway line on the section from Shihfen to Wanggu, 16 scheduled train services have been suspended, Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) official Wang Chao-hsien (王兆賢) said.

The cleanup work on the railway line will not be completed until around midnight Friday, as there is a lot of debris to be removed, he said.

No injuries have been reported so far in the areas affected by the storm.

As of 5 p.m. Friday, Typhoon Hinnamnor was located 410 kilometers southeast of Taiwan, moving north at 15 kilometers per hour, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The storm was carrying maximum sustained winds of 162 kph, with gusts of up to 198 kph, the bureau said.

The CWB has warned of high winds in large parts of Taiwan, from noon Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, as the storm continues on a northward path past the east coast of the country.
