Two window washers were rescued Thursday afternoon after a mishap with their scaffold high on the side of a downtown Boston tower.

The two employees of PIERCE Property Services were stuck on the platform outside the 42nd floor on the side of 100 Sudbury St., a luxury apartment building.

With Sky5 overhead, firefighters were seen working inside the building. They opened a narrow window enough to help the two workers climb inside.

Photos from the fire department showed the moment the second worker climbed to safety.

"They weren't panicked at all," said Deputy Chief Brian Tully. "They would've been willing to wait for the two hours for the mechanic to come and fix the machine. We decided that wasn't the best option."

"First and most importantly, we are grateful that our team is safe and there were no injuries," said Matt Pierce, president and CEO of PIERCE Property Services. "There was a mechanical failure with the building’s maintenance platform, but our technicians are trained for this very scenario. I'm proud of them for following our safety protocols. We would like to thank building management, the Boston Fire Department, and the Boston Police Department for their response."
